When you are planning and visualising what your website should look like, there are 5 key types of photographs that you will need. But why should you use photographs? You need to grab the attention of your website visitor fast, and photos are processed significantly faster than having to read text. But you only have 6 seconds to grab their attention!
Many businesses use stock images though, and there are a couple of problems with this. One is that another business could also use the same images, and that could potentially be your nearest competitor. The other is that it doesn't show your ideal customer the true face and story of your business.
So let's have a look at the photographs that you need for your website.
1. Large Website Header Image
Be an attention grabber and have the first thing a visitor to you website sees is a beautiful, and stunning high quality photograph, that is completely on brand, telling your ideal customer exactly what it is that you do. Let them admire your wonderful business and make them want to find out more about what you can do for them.
2. Professional Headshots
Have high quality headshots. After the home page, the about me page is quite often the second most popular page on your website. People want to know who they are buying from, or who they will be working with.
If it's just you, then you will need to show the face behind the business. Make sure you have a high quality professional headshot of you looking directly at the camera, so that you start to build that connection with your prospective customer.
But if you have a team, create a wonderful team page as your about us section. Besides the shot looking at camera, you can also be more creative with some more fun shots, telling a bit more of your story. Increasing the amount of different images people see of you and your team, the more that they feel they are getting to know you.
And don't forget that all important smile!

3. What is your product or service?
If you are a product business, you need to show high quality photographs of what you are selling. High quality images give a higher perceived value of the product. You can show your products in and out of the packaging, but also in use to get the full impact from your photographs.
If you a service business, you will still need those high quality images. You need to show the service in action, showing what you are doing and interacting with your customers. Create a visual story with your business photography.

Build the know, like and trust with your potential customers before they have even met you.

Your customers also love to see behind the scenes.
Photographs of your products being made, you meeting your suppliers, your working day, the fun you have with your team, and your business premises all tell that story of your business. Curate a beautiful photographic business brand story.
Don't forget your social media photographs
